It’s the holiday season!

From Christmas to Thanksgiving, Hanukkah to New Year’s, there’s a lot to celebrate this time of year!

Here’s our round-up of the best holiday events in the Aberdeen area!

North County Christmas with Kat Perkins

  • 7-10 p.m. Dec. 1.

Capitol Cinema Presents: ‘The Holdovers’

  • 7 p.m. Dec. 1 & 2; Dec. 8 & 9.

  • A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England prep school remains on campus during Christmas break to babysit a handful of students with nowhere to go. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school’s head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War.

  • Our favorite time of year is quickly approaching! Make sure to mark your calendars for one of the four fun-filled Saturdays! Come see all the new progress we have made on our new O scale layout and the continuing progress on our HO layout.

Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair

  • 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 9.
  • Noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 10.

  • Free.

Frontier Christmas

  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
  • Fort Sisseton Historic State Park, 11907 434th Ave., Lake City.
  • Free with a park pass. $8 per day or $36 for the year.
  • Celebrate the season in classic frontier fashion with Christmas crafts, homemade bread, hands-on activities, sleigh rides or horse-drawn wagon rides, depending on the weather, caroling and much more. This year we are bringing roasted chestnuts to the frontier and a taste of Christmas traditions from other countries.

Holiday Open House at the Dacotah Prairie Museum

  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 9
  • Dacotah Prairie Museum, 21 S. Main St.
  • Free.
  • Join us for a wonderful winter afternoon of holiday cheer at the Dacotah Prairie Museum’s annual Holiday Open House. Enjoy hot cider and festive treats while strolling through Christmas Tree Lane and Holiday Wreath’s “Lights, Camera, Action! Our Favorite Holiday Movie” themed display. Listen to live music, have a visit with jolly ol’ St. Nick, decorate a sugar cookie, create make-&-take ornaments and view the Museum exhibits all decked-out for the holidays. It’s the magic of the season at your Dacotah Prairie Museum in historic downtown Aberdeen.

Holiday Jam with The Hegg Brothers

  • 2 p.m. Dec. 9.
  • Aberdeen Community Theatre, 415 S. Main St.
  • $20.
  • Make a Wish Aberdeen with the regional Make a Wish South Dakota & Montana chapter is hosting another fabulous fundraising concert for the cause in #aberdeendowntown this holiday season! Get your Christmas music fix at the beautiful historic Capitol Theatre while supporting the Make of Wish Foundation this year!

Aberdeen Downtown Parade of Lights

  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
  • Downtown Aberdeen
  • Free.
  • The Aberdeen Downtown Parade of Lights is back. Let’s make the season extra bright! Head downtown with family and friends to admire floats decked out in holiday lighting and cheer making their way down Main Street. There will be great specials on Christmas gifts and warm drinks a’plenty available from many of our local businesses downtown, so head our way and get in the spirit of the holidays!

Visit Santa & Mrs. Claus

  • Noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 16 & 17.
  • Uptown Aberdeen Mall, 3315 Sixth Ave. S.E.
  • Free.

Moose Kid’s Christmas Party

  • 2-4 p.m. Dec. 16.
  • Moose Family Center, 410 Ninth Ave. S.W.
  • Free.
  • Take photos with Santa, decorate cookies, make decorations for the season.

Mistletoe On Main

  • 3:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 18.
  • Engels Event Center, 209 S. Main St.
  • Free.
  • One of Aberdeen Downtown’s biggest holiday events is BACK and even bigger than before! We will be hosting our fabulous Santa and Mrs. Claus duo this year at the beautiful Engel’s Event Co. space to meet your little ones and take some adorable holiday photos! This year, we are adding even more fun the the event: You’ll find some warm holiday drinks, amazing treats, merry holiday music, and even free holiday kid’s crafts for your kiddos to take home!
