“An American in Paris” with Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony
AUCS begins the season with “An American in Paris” on November 9, 2024, featuring an enchanting blend of French composers inspired by American jazz, and American composers inspired by French music. The program includes timeless works like Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero” and George Gershwin’s iconic “An American in Paris.” We are especially honored to be joined by guest clarinetist Audrey Miller, professor of clarinet and chair of the Music Department at NSU. She will perform Debussy’s haunting “Première Rhapsodie” and Artie Shaw’s rowdy Clarinet Concerto. The music of Jacques Offenbach, Gabriel Fauré, and Lili Boulanger will round out this evening of elegance and flair. This concert will treat your ears to music that is très magnifique! PROGRAM: Jacques Offenbach: “Can Can” from The Tales of Hoffmann Maurice Ravel: Bolero Claude Debussy: La Première Rhapsodie Artie Shaw: Clarinet Concerto Gabriel Fauré: Pavane Lili Boulanger: D’un matin de printemps George Gershwin: An American in Paris
