Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony to perform Nov. 7

Come hear the great classics played by the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Stanichar, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

Admission is free, and the performance is open to the public. General seating will be limited to a maximum of 200 patrons. Please note that masks are required, and attendees are asked to follow appropriate social-distancing protocols. The concert will also be livestreamed on the NSU Music Department Facebook page.

Audience members will be treated to a sampler of the great classical composers: Mendelssohn, Haydn and Beethoven. The orchestra opens with the bustling and gurgling music of Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture,” inspired by the composer’s visit to the islands of Scotland.

Dr. Rolf Olson, chair of the NSU Music Department, joins the orchestra for a performance of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto—the first concerto written for keyed trumpet. Finally, you will hear Beethoven’s rousing first symphony in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday.

This concert lasts only an hour and is sure to appeal to everyone, and will leave you cheering and wanting to hear more classics! Come hear this amazing orchestra of students, community members and professional musicians. Attending these concerts is a great way to hear masterworks in our region.
