The brick under my foot felt strange – can it be it? Could I be stepping the something surreal and magical, the road was running away in front of me as far as I could see. My kids laughed and chased each other down the yellow brick road. I stepped under the “The Storybook Land The Land of Oz“ sign following them.
You have to go a little bit out of your way to get to Aberdeen, South Dakota from most places. It isn’t on Interstate 29, which shoots drivers from Sioux Falls north to Fargo in a practically arrow-straight line, and it isn’t on Interstate 90, which deposits thousands at Mount Rushmore each year. But sometimes the best things require just a little extra effort.
