The Workforce Strategies Conference (WSC) is a one-day event designed to assist with Northeast South Dakota’s workforce challenges. This all-day conference is dedicated to elevating the training opportunities for area businesses, focused on employee recruitment and retention strategies. The WSC strives to create a juncture where local business and economic development leaders can connect to each other and the region, while obtaining a new set of workforce tools for the recruitment and retention toolbox.
The WSC is open to anyone interested in learning more about employee recruitment and retention strategies. The end goal of this event is to have regional employers, human resource directors, marketers and economic developers walk away thinking differently about how to recruit and retain employees to NESD.

New Life Fellowship welcomes Rev. Dr. John Vawter - pastor, international speaker, author and father of a recovering drug addict”. There will also be a symposium at 2 p.m. that day with Vawter and Gene Bourland who co-wrote “Hit by a Ton of Bricks: You’re Not Alone When Your Child’s on Drugs.” They will talk about why people use based on research with users, the “Big Lie” in using, the abuser’s/addict’s “bite,” recognizing who is responsible for using and sobriety and helpful pointers for families living in this quagmire. The symposium will include a question and answer period focused on protecting the audience’s anonymity. Both the services and the symposium are free and open to the public. Vawter adds, “If someone in your family or someone you know has a family member who is struggling with abuse or addiction then these meetings are for you.”

Each fall, maroon and gold fever takes over the campus and community of Aberdeen during Northern State University's annual homecoming celebration, Gypsy Days.
The weeklong celebration draws many alumni back to Northern for a full slate of fun events. The festivities also include the crowning of a Gypsy Day queen and marshal. Northern students decorate business windows all around Aberdeen with Wolves-themed paintings.
The week culminates in the largest parade in South Dakota: the annual Gypsy Day Parade, which draws about 200 groups from South Dakota and surrounding states, including floats and marching bands. The week also features Northern football, volleyball and soccer games.
