  1. Gypsy Days - NSU Homecoming

    September 29, 8:00 AM - October 4, 10:00 PM @ Northern State University

    Each October, maroon and gold fever takes over the campus and community of Aberdeen during Northern State University's annual homecoming celebration, Gypsy Days. The weeklong celebration draws many alumni back to Northern for a full slate of fun events. The festivities also include the crowning of a Gypsy Day queen and marshal. Northern students decorate business windows all around Aberdeen with Wolves-themed paintings. The week culminates in the largest parade in South Dakota: the annual Gypsy Day Parade, which draws about 200 groups from South Dakota and surrounding states, including floats and marching bands. The week also features Northern football, volleyball and soccer games.

  2. Downtown Aberdeen Farmers Market

    October 2, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Central Park

    The 2014 Downtown Aberdeen Farmers Market will take place every Thursday with a variety of vendors each week. Join us for fresh produce, baked goods, soaps and lotions, and a variety of other goods made by local vendors.

  3. Gypsy Day Parade

    October 4, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Main Street Aberdeen

    NSU's homecoming week culminates in the largest parade in South Dakota: the annual Gypsy Day Parade, which draws about 200 groups, including floats and marching bands, from South Dakota and surrounding states.

  5. Pumpkin Patch for Kids

    October 5, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Centennial Village (Brown County Fairgrounds)

    The 2014 Pumpkin Patch for Kids is for children ages 10 years and younger. Enjoy this fall tradition of picking your own pumpkin along with other activities including pumpkin painting, barrel train rides and face painting. Hot dogs and pop will be sold at this event. An adult is requested to accompany children. This event is sponsored by the Aberdeen Optimist Club.

  6. Young People's Theatre presents "Girl Power: Three Short Plays for Girls"

    October 6 - October 8 @ Capitol Theatre

    This 2014 Young People's Theatre performance has three short plays under the theme entitled "Girl Power." Pieces include "The Unknown Part of the Ocean" by Sheri Wilner, "Interrupting Vanessa" by Colleen Neuman, and "Anastasia Krupnik" by Meryl Friedman, based on the popular book by Lois Lowry.

    The 2014 Aberdeen Oktoberfest will have a variety of foods and activities. There will be a beer and wine garden, craft beer tasting, traditional German foods, root beer garden in the kids area, contests, prizes, German breed dog parade, Dachshund races, bands, dancers and other presentations.

  20. 2014 A Walk to Remember

    October 11, 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM @ Melgaard Park near Bandshell

    Registration: 1:00 - 2:30 pm - During registration, families will be given remembrance items, they will also be able to purchase Remembrance day T-shirts. Flags will also be available at no charge to write your angel's name to display during the program. There will also be a station to make a customary luminary to display on October 15. Kids games will be available during this time. A silent auction will also be held. Walk: 2:30-3:30 - A Walk around Melgaard Park will be held. Silent Auction will close out around 3:30. Short Program: 3:30-4:00 - A short program will be held as well as the reading of all babies names. We want to include all babies those with and without first names (i.e. Joshua Johnson or Baby Johnson). Refreshments and cookies will also be served. Proceeds from the T-shirt and silent auction sales will go to Mothers of Angels.     Head to Aberdeen, SD and limit out during the pheasant season opener for South Dakota. Daily limit of 3 roosters pheasants, with possession limit of 15. The limit accrues at the rate of 3 birds a day, and 15 birds may not be possessed until after the fifth day of hunting.     Registration: 1:00 - 2:30 pm - During registration, families will be given remembrance items, they will also be able to purchase Remembrance day T-shirts. Flags will also be available at no charge to write your angel's name to display during the program. There will also be a station to make a customary luminary to display on October 15. Kids games will be available during this time. A silent auction will also be held. Walk: 2:30-3:30 - A Walk around Melgaard Park will be held. Silent Auction will close out around 3:30. Short Program: 3:30-4:00 - A short program will be held as well as the reading of all babies names. We want to include all babies those with and without first names (i.e. Joshua Johnson or Baby Johnson). Refreshments and cookies will also be served. Proceeds from the T-shirt and silent auction sales will go to Mothers of Angels.     Head to Aberdeen, SD and limit out during the pheasant season opener for South Dakota. Daily limit of 3 roosters pheasants, with possession limit of 15. The limit accrues at the rate of 3 birds a day, and 15 birds may not be possessed until after the fifth day of hunting.
